MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital Begins Providing Peritoneal Dialysis
MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the HealthSouth network of hospitals, will begin providing peritoneal dialysis services for its inpatient physical rehabilitation patients beginning Oct. 24.
Peritoneal dialysis is a process of ridding the body of wastes, extra salt and water through the stomach’s natural lining when a patient is experiencing kidney failure. Kidney failure can be caused by a variety of conditions and diseases including Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, an obstruction and recurrent kidney infections.
While MidAmerican Rehabilitation Hospital provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries such as stroke, amputation, brain injury, spinal cord injury and hip fracture, patients may also have a secondary condition that needs to be treated with peritoneal dialysis. The treatment is worked into a patient’s therapy plan so that all of the patient’s needs are cared for during their stay as an inpatient.
