MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital and Title Boxing Club Get Amputee Patients in the Ring
MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital in the HealthSouth network of hospitals, has teamed up with Title Boxing Club of Lenexa, Kansas, to provide amputees an opportunity to come together to learn the art of boxing.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 14, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Title Boxing Club, located at 12940 W. 87th Street in Lenexa. Those who have experienced limb loss are invited to join members of MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital’s amputee support group at this special event which is being provided at no cost.
Attendees will have the opportunity to experience a 60-minute class including 15 minutes of active warm up exercises, 30 minutes of punching combo exercises and 15 minutes of core strengthening exercises. Participants who are wheelchair users are invited to bring their wheelchairs with them as the exercises can be adapted to their needs.
“Staying active is important for everyone, and exploring a new activity in a safe environment with peers makes this a great opportunity,” said Debbi Wedel, PT, therapy team leader and amputee support group coordinator at MidAmerica Rehabilitation Hospital. “For amputees, an activity like boxing can help increase strength, coordination and balance. We are very excited to be working with Title Boxing Club on this fun event!”
